Question: What is Microsoft Edge?

Answer:

Microsoft Edge is the new Internet browser that will be included with Windows 10.

Windows 10 will be available later this summer and will be a free upgrade from Windows 7 and 8. It may be for some more versions but Microsoft is slowly releasing information. Microsoft has not been real clear if this is permanent free for the upgrade from 7 and 8 or if only available for 1 year or if free for one year and then you have to pay for subscription. As it gets closer to release in late summer or early fall they will be more specific. Microsoft expects to have 1 billion copies of Windows 10 installed in a couple years. The largest installed operating system now is Android OS and it has half a billion installations.

Microsoft is basically dropping Internet Explorer after it has been around for 20 years since Windows 95. On Windows 10 for desktops and laptops Internet Explorer will still be available but will not be default and will disappear as upgrades to 10 come out. On mobile devices only Edge will be available.

Microsoft Edge is going to more closely follow the standards for the languages web pages are written in and also support the industry accepted extensions that allow web pages more power.

Microsoft Edge is supposed to have an interface that will appear more like Chrome and also work more like Chrome. The interface will not have the clutter that Internet Explorer had

Microsoft is keeping the e icon that we have used for years to choose Internet Explorer ion our desktops but now the e will start Edge.

As more information comes out on Windows 10 and Edge and as I play with them I will give more updates.
