Question: How do I move Favorites in Internet Explorer to a different PC?

Answer:

You can save your Internet Explorer (IE) Favorites from the old PC and import it in the new PC. Those wanting to do a fresh install of Windows 7 will also find these steps helpful.

Open IE on the old PC. Click Favorites and there is a triangle or pull down arrow beside Add to Favorites. Click it. Click Import and Export and then choose Export to a File and click Next. Choose Favorites (you can choose Feeds if you use RSS and Cookies if you have sites that use cookies that you don't want to lose what they stored in cookies (most people do not want to move cookies)). Click Next. Leave Favorites as marked so you get all your Favorites. Click Next. Choose where to store the file and remember what it is named and where. Since you are most likely transferring to a new machine or doing a fresh OS install the best thing is save it to a flash/thumb drive. Click Export. Click Finish.

If you exported/saved the file to your hard drive/Documents/My Documents you need to now put the file on external media such as a flash thumb drive or CD to take to new machine or before wiping out current machine doing fresh OS install.

Now to put your Favorites in your new IE. Open IE in the new machine. Click Favorites and there is a triangle or pull down arrow beside Add to Favorites. Click it. Click Import and Export and then choose Import from a File and click Next. Choose Favorites (and Feeds and Cookies if you exported them) and click Next. Using the Browse button find the file we exported to above. Then click Next. Leave Favorites as marked so you get all your Favorites. Click Import. Click Finish and all your Favorites should be in Favorites on your new machine.

Thank you Warren for the question this week.
